Description

A sleek, simple way to turn your garden into a bird-friendly café.

The Hanging Bird Feeder is a beautifully minimal feeder that brings native wildlife closer to home. Designed to hold halved fruit—like apples, pears or juicy oranges—it’s ideal for attracting nectar-loving garden birds like robins, blackbirds, and thrushes.

It’s effortlessly easy to install. Simply hang it from a tree branch, pergola, or porch using string, twine, or wire. No screws, tools or faff required. Its clean silhouette and weathering steel finish blend seamlessly with your garden—and only get better with age as the steel develops a rich protective patina.

A thoughtful gift for bird lovers, gardeners, or anyone who’d love more feathered visitors just outside their window.

No hammer needed — just hang it and let the birds come calling.

1. Pick the perfect perch – A tree branch, pergola beam, or porch hook are ideal spots.
2. Thread with string or twine – Use garden twine or weatherproof string through the top loop.
3. Hang at bird height – Around head height works well — somewhere visible, open, and stable.
4. Add your fruit of choice – Halved apples, pears, or oranges work beautifully. Try banana too!
5. Watch and enjoy – Local garden birds will soon drop in for a sweet treat.

Top Tip: To boost visits, place the feeder near flowering shrubs or a birdbath — and top up the fruit regularly to keep your café open for business.

Which birds will this attract?
The feeder is perfect for nectar-loving and fruit-eating birds such as robins, tits, blackbirds, and starlings. In some areas, you might also see finches and thrushes.

What type of fruit should I use?
Halved apples, pears, and oranges work brilliantly. Bananas and soft fruits like melon or grapes are also popular — especially in warmer months.

Does it require tools to hang?
None at all. Simply use string, garden twine or wire — no nails, screws or drilling needed.

Will it rust?
Not in the traditional sense. It’s made from 3mm Corten® steel, which forms a stable, protective patina over time. It weathers beautifully and lasts for years outdoors.

Where is it made?
Every feeder is proudly made in New Zealand, in a family-owned factory — combining craftsmanship with timeless design.

Each Metalbird is crafted from Corten® Steel, a premium, weathering steel made to last.

When it meets the elements, it doesn’t rust like your old BBQ. It transforms.

That change you’re seeing? That’s patina. A tough, protective outer layer that seals the steel, adds character, and preserves your bird for decades.

This isn’t paint. It’s nature’s way of ageing gracefully.

The Patina Process:

At first, you’ll notice bright orange spots (we call this the teenage phase). Soon enough, the whole bird will turn a bold orange, slowly shifting into deep burnt umber. Eventually, it settles into a moody charcoal that feels like it’s always belonged.

The Result? A piece of industrial art with a heartbeat. No peeling, no fading, just a bird that gets better with age.
