Beauty is subjective, but the Starling definitely grows more compelling the longer you look at it! Perhaps unremarkable at first glance, this familiar passerine bird has intelligent eyes and glossy feathers with an iridescent sheen, it’s the aerial displays that make our jaws drop. A Starling murmuration is the embodiment of natural splendour, a hypnotic cloud of movement made up of hundreds, sometimes thousands of birds, creating hypnotic patterns and moving in perfect synchronicity. And while we think of the Starling as a widespread species, their population has dropped precipitously in recent years, causing them to be red-listed as a bird of concern! Fittingly, we created this Starling with the amazing folks at the RSPB, another flock of individuals that accomplishes incredible things by working together! Best of all, 30% of all Starling proceeds go straight to the RSPB, so they can keep supporting and protecting vulnerable birds across the UK.

Our birds are designed with 3mm CorTen steel to form a protective patina that deepens and strengthens with the seasons. This patina will deepen in shade over the years until it reaches a deep brown/charcoal black hue.
This self-sealing aspect of CorTen steel provides a quality guarantee of up to 100 years, ensuring that our product lasts a lifetime and remains completely corrosion resistent.
What might initially resemble generic rust is simply the air and water-tight patina forming over a six month period, so don’t panic! Your Metalbird is doing exactly what it’s been designed to do, and this patina will protect the steel from any further damage and disintegration.
CorTen steel does not require any treatments, oils or chemical additives and is therefore extremely environmentally friendly.
