The garden’s noisiest neighbour — in the best way.
The Great Spotted Woodpecker brings noise, rhythm, and serious charm to your backyard. Famous for its tree-drumming behaviour (up to 16 strikes per second!), this bird is all about bold moves and headbanging vibes. It also has a smart climbing trick — two toes forward, two back — that makes it the rock climber of the bird world.
Ours captures that moment of vertical pause, hammer poised, ready for action. A standout gift for bird lovers, drummers, or anyone who loves a bit of garden theatre.
✓ Bold design... 31.5cm high x 10cm wide, approx. 300g ✓ Packed flat... in an A4 box (30cm x 21cm x 1cm) ✓ Same-day dispatch... on weekday orders before 2pm ✓ UK craftsmanship... made in a family-run factory ✓ Patina finish... 3mm Corten steel develops a unique rusted surface ✓ Quick install... simple tap-in with no tools required beyond a hammer
Let your woodpecker find its rhythm.
Pick a vertical wooden surface like a tree trunk, post, or timber fence.
Angle the beak upward to capture its signature climbing pose.
Use a small hammer to tap the thick end of the stake into wood.
Apply steady pressure to avoid any twisting or sideways slant.
Position where you’ll hear real birds too for a cheeky touch of realism.
Top Tip: Avoid installing into thin wood or delicate fence slats — a thick, solid spot works best.
Does this woodpecker make noise?
Only in your imagination — but it looks ready to start drumming.
Will the colours change over time?
Yes — the steel develops a rust-toned patina unique to your garden.
Is it hard to install?
Not at all. A few gentle taps with a hammer and you're set.
What’s it made from?
Weathering Corten steel, 3mm thick — designed to withstand UK weather.
Can I gift this to a musician?
Absolutely — it’s nature’s original percussionist!

AS SEEN IN
Each Metalbird is crafted from Corten® Steel, a premium, weathering steel made to last.
When it meets the elements, it doesn’t rust like your old BBQ. It transforms.
That change you’re seeing? That’s patina. A tough, protective outer layer that seals the steel, adds character, and preserves your bird for decades.
This isn’t paint. It’s nature’s way of ageing gracefully.
The Patina Process:
At first, you’ll notice bright orange spots (we call this the teenage phase). Soon enough, the whole bird will turn a bold orange, slowly shifting into deep burnt umber. Eventually, it settles into a moody charcoal that feels like it’s always belonged.
The Result? A piece of industrial art with a heartbeat. No peeling, no fading, just a bird that gets better with age.
what’s the word on the bird?

The product is even better than I thought it would be. It sits just perfectly on the tree, and looks even better now it’s weathered properly. I’ll definitely be adding more to our garden.
I bought this as a long shot for my husband's birthday. We both love it! MUCH better quality than I was expecting, the bird is quite heavy, I think it will last for many years.
I will be looking at other birds for birthdays for friends and relations.
Thank you
I love all birds I have an acre plot with lots of open farmland so always see plenty of birds, I have a big willow and noticed 2 woodpecker holes so am hoping they will be used,
Your birds are so well made the price was good too and I’d love to buy more especially robin, my late husbands favourite bird, I have 3pairs who visit my garden each year, Thankyou
What a cracker of a bird!!!!
This product and the service provided is the best. Absolutely thrilled with the wood pecker now out guarding our tree. Quality is top notch, thick steel which going to last. Love the vast range on offer definitely going to buy more. Have already recommended site to family who have bought a couple of robins. Fully support what they stand for and the limited impact it has on the environment.
This is a birthday present for my daughter,. She knocked down their old house, built an eco house and named it Yaffle Wood. Yaffle is the local name for a woodpecker.
Metalbirds are our go-to gift for friends and family for ‘special’ birthdays and Anniversaries.
We love the Woodpecker and have bought several, but the Swallow’s were amazing too
They are always well received - comments made include beautiful, unusual, extremely well made and a very welcome present.
I have ordered these beautiful birds as gifts for several friends, they have absolutely loved receiving them ,the quality is first class ,delivered very quick,if you do have a problem which happened with one of my orders at Christmas time the company were a brilliant help to me very caring indeed ,I would highly recommend buying these either as gifts or a treat for yourself . Thank you for the joy you have given my friends and myself I will be ordering more for sure . In particular I have bought lots of little Robins as just enough to spend as lasts longer than a box of crocs if visiting someone xxx
I bought the greater spotted woodpecker for my husband's birthday as for the past 4 years we've been visited by woodpeckers who feed from our peanut feeder. It's a lovely representation of the bird and stands in for the real bird when it's not feeding in our garden. Couldn't be more easy to tap into the tree and he looks magnificent! My husband was thrilled to receive Woody!
A unique gift
I bought the woodpecker as a birthday gift for my wife, it is a beautiful and unique present and always gives us pleasure when we look out of the windows and see it attached to our wood shed - thank you I will be buying more.
Spot the Woodpecker.
About a month ago a Greater Spotted Woodpecker suddenly turned up at our nut-feeder. We had never seen one before in our lives and had no idea that they had spread to our area. Day after day she returned to feed and we named her "Spot". We haven't seen her for more than a week but the Metalbird Greater Spotted Woodpecker which we have recently placed within view of the kitchen window is always visible and serves as a wonderful reminder of our beautiful visitor as well as looking stunning in it's own right. We absolutely love our Metalbird version which is already weathering beautifully.
Great idea for a gift
I bought the great spotted woodpecker as a gift for a friend's 60th birthday. As a fellow birdwatcher she was delighted with her gift.
Looks great apart from the rust
Be warned according to the reply to our comlaint about rusting - it takes a least 6 months before the bird turns reddish brown and loses the ORANGE rust look. After 10 years it will ALMOST be black, like it the photos on the website. Shoddy marketing.
Quality Product
Received promptly.
Beautifully made.
Made out of very heavy gauge steel.
Will last a lifetime.
looking forward to see the colouring change over time.
Very pleased
Eye catching
Well made but simple. Very realistic too. Every time I look outside it catches my eye and for a moment think it’s a real bird. Only criticism is I don’t like the patina (rusty) shade it goes after a while so my husband repainted it black.
Brilliant
What a fantastic piece of art work! I absolutely love it and so does my Mum, I bought as a Christmas present for her and it has bought her a lot of joy looking at it through her window.
I highly recommend Metalbird they are beautifully made and look stunning. Thank you
