Description

A ghostly beauty that watches over your garden.

The Barn Owl is one of Britain’s most mesmerising birds — silent in flight, fierce in the hunt, and steeped in folklore. With its distinctive heart-shaped face and eerie screech, it’s long been a symbol of wisdom and mystery.

Ours is captured mid-watch, standing proud in weathering Corten® steel. From its extra-long talons to that listening face, this silhouette brings grace and presence to any outdoor space. Designed to last, it weathers over time into a rich, rusted patina that blends beautifully with the British landscape.

A wise hunter needs a strong perch.

  1. Choose a sturdy tree, post or timber beam where the owl can cast its watchful presence.
  2. Hold the owl at a slight downward angle to mimic how it might perch in nature.
  3. Gently tap the stake end into place with a hammer, keeping steady pressure to avoid movement.
  4. Check for balance and stability before stepping away.
  5. Consider placing near soft lighting to make the silhouette stand out at dusk.

Top Tip: Pre-drill a pilot hole if working with especially hard wood — it makes for a smoother install and reduces the risk of movement.

Why is the Barn Owl so quiet in flight?
Its feathers are specially adapted to reduce sound, making it almost silent when hunting.

Does it actually attract real owls?
Not usually, but it won’t deter them either — some may get curious.

Is it suitable for year-round display?
Yes. Corten steel is built for all weather conditions and develops a stable patina.

Is this a life-size owl?
It’s scaled for gardens, but close in size to a real Barn Owl perched.

What makes Barn Owls special in British folklore?
They’re seen as wise guardians, messengers, and even symbols of transformation.

Each Metalbird is crafted from Corten® Steel, a premium, weathering steel made to last.

When it meets the elements, it doesn’t rust like your old BBQ. It transforms.

That change you’re seeing? That’s patina. A tough, protective outer layer that seals the steel, adds character, and preserves your bird for decades.

This isn’t paint. It’s nature’s way of ageing gracefully.

The Patina Process:

At first, you’ll notice bright orange spots (we call this the teenage phase). Soon enough, the whole bird will turn a bold orange, slowly shifting into deep burnt umber. Eventually, it settles into a moody charcoal that feels like it’s always belonged.

The Result? A piece of industrial art with a heartbeat. No peeling, no fading, just a bird that gets better with age.
